Supers Free-Fall Continues

Posted June 27, 2014

The past week has been one to forget as the Supers only achieved one out of a possible six points in a forfeit loss to Swan River, a tie at the West Parkland Stars, and a loss in Russell to the Bulls.

Saturday June 21- Swan River 7- Canora Supers 0 by Forfeit

The Supers were to travel to Swan River to take on the Reds. Unfortunately due to a lack of players and limited time left in the season, it was decided that the game would end up in a forfeit win for the Reds. This could have been a battle for first place but unfortunately it was not meant to be.

Tuesday June 24- Canora Supers 3 at West Parkland Stars 3

After the disappointment of the forfeit loss on Saturday, the Supers looked to rebound in Roblin vs the young up and coming West Parkland Stars.

Things looked very promising in the first inning as the Supers loaded the bases with one out. After a pitching change, right fielder Greg Andreychuk had a two rbi single to kickstart the offence. Unfortunately the rally ended two batters later with no more runs scored and a 2-0 lead. For the rest of the evening, Stars pitcher Lee Kindret allowed only one hit, an rbi double to Travis Mentanko. Kindret's control was inconsistent all evening, but he always got out of trouble as he had eight walks and an impressive thirteen strikeouts to shut the offence down. Fourteen Supers reached base, but only two were hits as they stranded eleven baserunners

Colby Parachoniak went the distance on the mound, allowing three runs (two earned) on four walks and eight strikeouts to preserve the tie.

The Stars had been winless all season, but managed their first point in franchise history.

Wednesday June 25- Canora Supers 0 at Russell Bulls 4

With no wins in their last four games, the Supers desperately needed to get things going in Russell. As was the case for the previous four games, the bats were completely silent as they could only get one hit off of Bulls starting pitcher Kelly Cook in a 4-0 loss.

The first inning set the tone as two fielding miscues led to three unearned runs which put the Supers behind the eight-ball. With only an Evan Rostotski single, a Randy Brenzen walk and a Darcy Blommaert, the Supers only had three baserunners the entire evening.

Derek Palagian pitched six innings, giving up just three hits the entire evening while taking the loss. All four runs were unearned as the defence made four errors.

The Supers record dropped to 7-5-1 after the loss, a far cry from the 7-1 start to the season. The Supers three remaining regular season games are as follows:

Monday June 30 at the Yorkton Orioles, 6:30 PM

Thursday July 3 vs Yorkton Yankees, 6:15 PM in Canora

Friday July 4 vs Langenburg Indians, 6:30 PM in Canora

The regular season must be completed by July 7, with the first round of playoffs to be completed by July 17. First round is a best of three. Playoff matchups will be determined once the regular season ends.
