Outlaws take 2014 Provincial title!
Posted July 29, 2014
The 2014 provincial championships took place this past weekend in Kindersley with the Outlaws hosting the tournament.
The weekend didnt get off to a good start due to mother nature, which cancelled all the Friday games. After some hard work by the groundskeeping crew and many players, the diamonds were ready. Due to Fridays cancellation it was decided the round robin games would be 5 innings in order to catch everything up for Sunday.
The Outlaws took on the Dodgers in the first game. Bess pitched 4 strong with lefty Kyle G coming in for the final inning. The Outlaws won the game 5 to 1.
The second game against Marysburg saw young Misskey take the bump. After falling behind 3 to 1, Herp tied the game with a double in the 4th. The Outlaws scored one in the top of the 5th. Gimmer, who made a couple highlight reel plays at 3rd took the hill in the bottom for the save and delivered. This win was huge as it guaranteed first place for the Outlaws and put them into the semis for Sunday.
Sunday's semi saw the Outlaws play the Stallions. Donkey got the start and fell behind early 2 zip. The Outlaws loaded the bags in the 3rd and Palmer came to the dish. The Outlaws went up 4 to 2 on one of the biggest grand slams this sideline reporter has ever seen. That ball needed a stewardess. After that the momentum was with the Outlaws and they ended up taking the game 7 to 3. This put the boys in the final, and waiting to see who they played between Regina and Marysburg. The Royals pulled off their second comeback win of the day in exciting fashion, setting up an Outlaw/Royal final.
The final saw Cat take the bump against the Royals. The story in this one was the Outlaw bats. They jumped out early and stayed on top for the entire game. Some uncharacteristic Marysburg errors allowed some opportunities and the Outlaws capitilized on them. Cat pitched a solid game , and the Outlaws became the 2014 provincial champs witha convincing 13 to 1 win in 5 innings.
All in all, a great weekend of ball, and partying in "shanty town" . The Outlaws will now head to Regina Aug 22 in hopes of capturing the Western Canadian Championship.
