Posted August 31, 2014
Yesterday the Lady Spartans took part in their second meet of the school year, travelling to their own back yard to particiapte in the Seven Lakes Showcase. Hopes were high entering the meet, and Spartans ran well finishing as meet runner up in both the JV and Varsity divisions. The ladies were upset at home by a surprising Cinco Ranch team that won both divisions. The Ladies will have a one week hiatus from competitions as they focus on their next scheduled meet the Region III Preview on September 13th at Atascocita.
In the Varsity Division, the Spartans complied a team score of 54 to finish second behind Cinco Ranch's 32. The Spartan Girls were led by Junior Captain Kacie Corbin who finished 3rd with a time of 19:44. Joining Kacie in the top ten was Sophomore Tori Welkener who finished in 8th place overall with a time of 20:04. Sophomore Laura Broman finished in 11th place with a 20:18, while Junior Sydney Gandy finished in 15th (20:31). In the JV division, it was a close battle between Cinco Ranch and Seven Lakes, where Cinco Ranch ended up edging the Spartans 51 to 56. It was a great meet for many of the young ladies , and many personal bests were run. Leading the way for the Spartans was sophomore Victoria Fernandez. Victoria was running in only her second cross country meet ever, as she was recruited from the track team in the spring. Victoria placed 4th overall runnning a 14:02 for the 2 mile course. Finishing in the top ten with her were Sophomore Andi Zambrano (another track recruit!) who finished 9th with a time of 14:39 and junior Mina Finnoeen who finished 10th with a 14:43.
