Royals Gunned Down

The Royals and Guns squared off in the SSBL final over the past three days.  Game one saw the Royals lose by a score of 2-0.  Paul Strueby pitched a complete game gem for the Royals but the sticks couldn't give him any support.  Thomas Lessmeister and Adam Gerwing were called up from the midget ranks to give the Royals nine players.  Both played well making the plays they had to make.  The second game saw the Royals lose by a score of 13-3.  Brett Yarskie started on the hill for the Royals and was relieved by Paul Strueby, Adam Gerwing, and Thomas Lessmeister.  The game was 6-3 until the Guns broke it wide open in the fifth.

Game three saw Dean Jaeb take the hill for the Royals and throw a very good complete game to come away with a 6-1 victory.  The defense was really good not making any errors and the sticks were lively with nine hits with Luke Strueby leading the way with two.  Game four saw the Royals send Dean to the mound again.  Dean got through two innings before giving way to Craig McWillie who pitched three scoreless innings.  It was a 6-5 game going into the bottom of the sixth when the Guns broke it open with six more runs.  Final score was 12-5 for the Guns.  The offense was sharp as the Royals had ten hits with Curtis Strueby leading the way with three.

All in all, it was a very good series for the Royals.  The boys were severely short handed and played well.  Two innings really hurt, but other than that the boys played solid.  Hre's hoping next year the schedule works out and we are able to field our whole squad for our playoff run.  Congrats to the Guns on winning the SSBL title.  You boys played very well.
