District Week!!!!!
Posted October 19, 2014
On Saturday November 11th, the Lady Spartan cross country team travelled down the road to Sugarland to take place in their final pre district tune-up, competing in the Kempner Cougar Classic Invitational. This meet pitted the Spartans against some of the best teams in Fort Bend ISD. The ladies ran very well at the meet and were able to come away with both the Varsity and Junior Varsity Championship.
On the Varsity level, the Spartans were a little shorthanded as Junior Captain Kacie Corbin was battling illness and Junior Sydney Gandy was taking an SAT. In their stead the Sophomores took center stage for the race. Finishing 1st for the Spartans and 2nd overall, Tori Welkener looked strong and finished the challenging 3 mile course in 18:43. Finishing shortly behind Tori were Laura Broman, Sharon Xu, Julia Marotta and Camilla Broman, who finished in 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th place respectively. Senior Cassie Twiggs finished off the race for the Spartans finishing in 13th place overall. The Spartans scored 28 points to easily distance themselves from second place Needville’s 61.
Spartan Domination took place on the JV level as the Spartan A team finished with a perfect score of 15, to beat second place, The Spartan B team who had 78. In third place was Needville with 122 points.
The Spartans finished with the top 13 spots overall and with 17 of the top 20 runners. Leading the way for the Spartans was Junior Abby Smith who ran a 14:11 on the challenging 2 mile course. Finishing right behind her was freshman Minea Tokar who ran a 14:14. Rounding out the top twenty were, 3rd Fara Omilabu, 4th Chloe Hudson, 5th Sarah Turner, 6th Taylor Brenkus, 7th Cameron Miller, 8th Cathleen Zhang, 9th Andi Zambrano, 10th Annette Sandsdalen, 11th Morgan Nguyen, 13th Ana Meland, 14th Maddie Glasscock, 16th Gabby Parra, 17th Isabel Velasquez, 18th Alexis Broussard and 20th Hallie Wilson.
This week the Spartans will run at Bear Creek Park in the 1st ever District 19-6A Championship. At the bottom of the page I am including the itinerary for this meet.
A special thank you to Mrs. Broussard for decorating the trophy case in the hallway by the gyms, and a special thank you to Mrs. Bishop for taking charge of our end of season banquet. If you are interested in helping with the end of season banquet, please drop a line to Coach Pollack and he will create an email distribution list for all parents that want to work on the banquet.
