Looking ahead to the 2015 season

It’s that time of year again. Town teams are starting to set their schedules as anticipation grows for the new season.
St. Peter enters the 2015 season as the defending Region 6C champion after three straight wins against River Valley League rivals Chanhassen, Belle Plaine and Jordan. The regional title gave the Saints a first round bye at the 2014 state tournament – hosted by Belle Plaine and Jordan – which was also their first state berth since 2010.
But in the second round, St. Peter lost a pitcher’s duel 3-0 against the Ada A’s, ending the season with the most wins in team history (as far as records will show), which dates back more than 100 years.
The Saints finished 2014 with a 24-8 overall record and went 11-2 in the RVL.
Turning the page to the 2015 season, the Saints expect the same roster to defend their region title, as well as the Arlington/Gaylord High Life Invitational championship, which the local nine won with four victories at Arlington Ballpark last June.
The start of the 2015 campaign is nothing to bluff at. The Saints open the season Friday, May 1 at Maple Lake, who claimed the 2012 Class C state title. The home opener is the following Sunday with a 4 p.m. tilt against Waterville.
STP then hosts three Class B teams – Anoka, Chaska and Prior Lake – May 10, 15 and 17, respectively, followed by a game at Victoria on May 22. The Vic’s won the 2012 Class B state championship.
The 4th Annual St. Peter Town Team Golf Tournament is slated for Saturday, June 13 at Shoreland Country Club. More details to be posted at a later date.
June 19-21 marks the High Life Invite where the Saints look to claim a second straight trophy.
After 13 league games and at least 10 non-league games, the Saints begin Region 6C playoffs on Aug. 7. If St. Peter retains its region crown, or is at least in the top three, it will qualify for the 2015 state tournament hosted by Cold Spring and Watkins.
