Trappers Fall to Rival HB
Posted March 30, 2015
The inaugural “Battle for the Golden Baseball” lived up to its name as the Trappers and “The Team Down The Street” battled for seven innings for the right to keep the Golden Baseball Trophy until the two teams play again next year.
After the Traps took an early 3-0 lead behind runs from Jacob Brugman, Rico Reyes, and Skylar Jensen, the Eagles responded with three runs of their own to tie the score after two innings.
The two teams would remain deadlocked thanks in large part to the pitching of junior Jake Dunn. The right-hander pitched out of a couple jams and got great defense to keep the Eagles from scoring until the bottom of the fifth. In that inning HBHS took advantage of two Trapper errors to plate two runs and take a 5-3 lead. They stretched the lead to 6-3 in the bottom of the sixth and Dunn was replaced by sophomore Robert Doty who finished out the inning.
Unfortunately the Trappers couldn’t respond despite multiple runners reaching base in their final at-bats and eventually lost 6-3. The Trappers were led offensively by freshman Skylar Jensen who was 2-3 on the day. Jacob Brugman had the other Trapper hit and finished 1-3. Will Doty also stood out offensively with an RBI, but was even more impressive defensively, stretching out multiple times to help save outs at first base.
With the loss the Trappers fell to 2-4 on the season. They have just one non-league game remaining, an April 10th match-up with Catlin Gable over Spring Break.
