Posted April 20, 2015
The Midget Royals opened their 2015 regular season this past weekend as they traveled to the BC Interior for a 4-game set against the two teams from the Kelowna area.
On Saturday the club squared off against the Kelowna Cubs, a team that is new to the Midget AAA division this year. In the first game of the season, Chris Bailey took the mound for the Royals, and helped lead the team to a 7-4 win. Trevor Reed came in from the bullpen to record the save. The offence was led by Domenic Baptista, who went 2-4 with a pair of doubles. In the second game of the day, the Royals secured a sweep of the double-header with a 6-5 victory. Trevor Biggin got the start for the Royals and picked up the win, while Seth Injates recorded the save. Tristan Reed and Kyron Smith reached base a combined six times in the game, helping to set the table for the middle of the order.
On Sunday the team made the short trip to West Kelowna to take on the Diamondbacks. Injates got the ball in game one and threw a complete game shutout, leading the team to a 7-0 win. Injates recorded seven strikeouts while keeping the West Kelowna batters at bay. Tristan Reed had another solid game at the plate, going 2-2 with 2 walks, a HBP, 2 stolen bases, and a run scored. In the final game of the weekend, the Royals' bats exploded for 15 runs on 21 hits to secure a 15-4 victory and a perfect 4-0 weekend. Baptista went 3-4 with a triple and 4 RBI's, while Trevor Biggin went 2-2 with 2 HBP, an RBI, and a double.
The Royals now have a few days of practice before resuming league play next weekend with a pair of double-headers against the Kamloops Riverdogs and Vernon Canadians.
