Orioles Defense Rolls and Offense Aids in Home JV Opener vs SFC
The Lennox JV would start earlier than normal due to Lennox’s loss and they would start with 8th Grader Quincy Ihnnen pitching vs Sioux Falls Christian.
In the first, two strikeouts and a fly out would make the top of the first quite easy. In the bottom of the first, 8th Grader Ray Williams would walk and steal 2nd base. Quincy Ihnnen would strike out and Brock Stein would hit a RBI triple to make it 1 to 0. Anderson would fly out and Ziegler would strike out to end the first. A leadoff triple for SFC would end up scoring on a sacrifice ground out. However, a hit by pitch would be avoided with two strike outs to end the top of the second. In the home half of the second, Matt Wolf’s single and Cole Feterl’s base on error put runners on second and 1st. Matt Bruns would ground into a fielder’s choice for out number one. McLaren would strike out and then Ray Williams came through with a RBI single to make it 2 to 1. Following Ray’s single, Ihnnen would single and make it 3 to 1. Stein struck out to end the 2nd inning.
In the third, two strikeouts and a fielder’s choice would end the inning easily for Ihnnen. In the bottom of the 3rd, Lennox capitalized with 2 runs on three walks, one hit and one Sioux Falls Christian error to make it 5 to 1 Lennox. Quincy Ihnnen would strike out the side and end the top of the fourth very easily. In the bottom of the 4th, Brock Stein and Brock Anderson had leadoff walks. After Stein stole 2nd and 3rd and Brock Anderson stole 2nd, a wild pitch came through and scored Brock Stein. After 4 innings, it was 6 to 1 Orioles. In the 5th, Brock Anderson came in to finish and two strike outs and a fly out ended the inning on 9 pitches.
The Orioles won 6 to 1 and looked at what was really positive about the game. It isn’t easy having no errors in a game but they had zero errors. They also out hit SFC 5 to 2. Combined, Ihnnen and Anderson allowed 0 walks and two hits. They struck out 11 of the 15 possible hitters.
Go Orioles!!
