Bad Start Plauqes Lennox Oriole JV
On April 17th, 2015, it was a beautiful day. The temperature was 70 degrees and the wind was at a nice 5 miles per hour and the Lennox Varsity had just played a very good McCook Central team and they played quite well. Now it was the JV's turn. With the Varsity game taking so long, it was probably not going to be a long game for the JV as they only had 2 hours to play 5 innings. Freshman Marcus Metivier was called upon by the Lennox JV team to start versus the McCook Central JV team. Trey Anderson was given the baseball and the duties of pitching for McCook.
Starting with the top of the first inning, the Orioles JV team was sort of plauqed when McCook came out hitting the ball. The Orioles would allow two walks, one hit by pitch, one error, six singles and even one double which would end up scoring nine runs for McCook. The Orioles would end up with two ground outs and a strike out in the bottom of the first and now they were down nine to zero after one inning. Devon Jongeling made an appearance in the first and he continued to pitch in the second inning as well. In the second inning, two singles for McCook would be avoided by Lennox with two strikeouts and a ground out. After Matt Bruns reached base due to Catcher Interferance, he would take second and third due to McCook throwing two wild pitches. Then Marcus Metivier would reach on an error on the short stop and score Bruns to make it nine to one McCook.
The Oriole JV defense struggled in the top of the third when three walks, one hit by pitch and one Lennox error would lead to two more McCook Central runs and a eleven to one McCook lead. Going into the bottom of the third, Tyler Zebell would be hit by pitch and Devon Jongeling would reach by error. When a passed ball happened Tyler Zebell got into a pickle and was tagged out at third for out number one. With Jongeling one third base, Braedon Wallenstein would hit an slow grounder to short and he would beat the throw for an infield single and a RBI. It was now eleven to two McCook. Two fielder's choice, a walk to Matt Bruns, and a hit by pitch by Zach Ford would load the bases for Jacob Ziegler. Ziegler would work the count and earn a RBI walk to make it eleven to four McCook. A strike out by Metivier would end the inning. Into the top of the fourth, Levi Buckneberg took over and he pitched to three batters and got a ground out, a walk and two strikeouts to end the inning with some ease for the first time in the game for Lennox. JD Kirchner started the fourth off right with a walk. However, Tyler Zebell, Braedon Wallenstein and Matt Wolf would all strikeout in a row and end the game due to the time limit.
No JV or Varsity game is allowed to start an inning after 9:30 and the time was 9:40 so the game was over and Lennox had lost eleven to four. The Orioles looked at a few good points such as the Orioles out scoring McCook after the first inning four to two. They also had two very good pitching performances from Devon Jongeling and Levi Buckneberg who both did very good jobs only allowing two runs in three innings. The Orioles JV will play after the Varsity on Wednesday April 22nd at approximentally 7:30.
Go Orioles!!
