Bria Green set the new single-season school record with her 18th home run of the season

Albany, N.Y. - Senior Bria Green (Wheatley Heights, N.Y.) broke the Stony Brook single-season home run record with her 18th of the year as the Stony Brook softball team (25-14, 11-2 AE) picked up a critical sweep of the Albany Great Danes (25-16, 8-6 AE) to secure a spot in the America East playoffs.

Bryant's Reaction

"We fought hard for these two important wins," said head coach Megan Bryant. "Both pitchers gave us a chance to win and we were able to string some hits together, run the bases well and play solid defense. Bria and Diane had really productive days and a lot of our other hitters stepped up as well."

Game One

Green wasted little time in her pursuit of the record, hitting a two-run home run in her first at-bat to give the Seawolves a 2-0 lead. After Albany regained the lead with a three-run first, junior Diane Caruso (Middleton, N.Y.) put Stony Brook back in front for good, crushing a grand slam to center in the top of the third. Junior Alexandra Pisciotta (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) added insurance with a two-run line drive homer to left in the fourth. Junior Jane Sallen (Lake Worth, Fla.) earned her 14th win of the year, working 6.1 innings and allowing three runs, all unearned, on six hits.
Game Two

The Seawolves continued the offensive onslaugt in game two, scoring seven runs on 12 hits for a 7-3 victory. Senior Shayla Giosia (Runnmede, N.J.) opened the scoring in the third with an rbi single, followed by a two-run single from Caruso. Senior Lauren Kamachi (Surrey, British Columbia) bounced an rbi single through the right side in the fifth to up the lead to 4-0, then Green hit an rbi triple and scored on an errant throw to third to pad the lead to 6-0. Kamachi closed the scoring with her fourth homer of the year in the seventh. Senior Allison Cukrov(Irvine, Calif.) was electric in the circle, holding the Great Danes scoreless until a three-run seventh inning. Her final line read 7 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 8 K's.

  • Green went 4-for-6 with a double, triple and home run, scoring five runs. Giosia added three hits.
  • The Seawolves locked up a spot in the America East Tournament for the fourth consecutive season.
  • Stony Brook has won its last 12 regular-season conference series dating back to 2013. They are 27-4 over that stretch.
