Coming off a disheartening loss to the Cards, the DBacks looked to take two games from the White Sox this past weekend.
The White Sox elected to start a lefty, and the DBacks counted with their own, Joe Sergeant. You could see the shoulders slouching in the visitor dugout.
Sergent K'd 16 over 6 innings. The Sox did what ever they could to put the ball into play by issuing a series of bunts. Unfortunately, that's Segent's kryptonite and the Sox recorded a few runs on the otherwise perfect performance.
SS James Trask broke up the White Sox pitcher's no-no in the 4th with a single to left. He also broke up Sergent's perfect game in the 2nd, with a fielding error. History was not to be made!!
During a 5-run 5th, DH Tom Gayef made all 3 outs in the inning. Continuing his trend of trying to lose the game, the player-coach inserted veteran knuckleballer Tony Wyllie into the game in the 7th to close it out with a 3-run lead.
Tony decided that Sergent wasn't ready for his first 2015 DBacks win, and promptly allowed a 5-spot in the top of the 7th putting the Dbacks down by 2.
A series of walks and hits put runners at 2nd and 3rd with 2 Out and the Dbacks down by 1 for DH Tom Gayef, who was anxiously looking down the bench for someone to pinch-hit for him. After watching a couple of dick-high fastballs Gayef flipped some offspeed into right field, scoring OF Evan Gerwing from 2nd and giving the DBacks their first walk-off victory of the year.
Tony Wyllie with the vulture win.
Vag - Segent for "throwing too hard" and making his finger explode.
MVP - Gayef for recording his only hit when it counted most.
