DBacks Give Longhorns First Loss

Heading into a 3-game set with the undefeated Longhorns, the DBacks knew it was time to stop booting the ball and actually make some plays.

Well, that didn't happen.  But fortunately for the DBacks, pitcher Tom Gayef didn't give them many opportunities to do so.

Gayef threw 100% fastballs and left the game with a 9-1 lead in the 5th.  He had 11ks, no walks, and 3 hits over 5.

With Gayef out, the DBacks put in Axel to throw the final two innings.  Axel showed some mercy on the 'Horns by giving up 5 runs, albeit with some help from the aforementioned sh*tty defence.

'Horns 3B Bud Eistein got into a fender-bender just before the game, and was somehow in a great mood when he arrived.  When DBacks' Matt Zanutto pulled back a bunt for a called strike and complained, Bud exclaimed, "That's OK buddy! You'll get the next one!"  This provided Zanutto with enough courage to swing at the next pitch, lashing a double to the left-center gap.

Then when Bud struck out on 3 pitches in his only at-bat, he could be heard saying as he walked back to the dugout, "Gosh darnit Tommy, you got me again!"  'Horns manager Jade Alberts promptly removed Bud from the game for lack of emotion.

Junior Nichols blew a hamstring trying to go 1st-3rd on a Fodchuk double.  He is thinking of changing his whole "show and go" mantra to "1 pole and go".

Zanutto, Trask, and Sudsy all finished 3-4.

MVP: Gayef, because if we gave it to Zanutto (3-4, 4 RBIs) Tom would log in and change it anyway.

VAG: Sudsy for getting picked off, and getting the permanent red light on hit-and-runs (in addition to the existing permanent red light for stealing).
