Bantam Royals Go 1-2 in Spring Playoffs, Fail to Qualify for Semi-Finals
Posted June 15, 2015
The Ridge Meadows Bantam AA Royals have completed the spring portion of their schedule, finishing with a 1-2 record in the playoffs and failing to qualify for the semi-finals of the Tier Two playoffs.
In the first game against the Chilliwack Cougars, Nick Baust got the start and was sharp going 4.1 innings allowing only 2 unearned runs on 3 hits while striking out 9. However, the team was unable to build off of this strong start and dropped a 6-2 decision. Owen Halstrom hit a home run in the first inning, which was not enough offence for the Royals on this night.
In game two, the Royals bounced back with a strong performance against Ladner, beating them 12-2 in a 6 inning mercy. Darian Guemos went 5 strong innings to pick up the win, while Nick Baust went 2-3 at the dish with a double and a triple.
In their final playoff game, with a chance to qualify for the semi-finals with a win, the boys traveled to Richmond to take on the Chuckers. However, it was not to be on this night, as the Royals fell 11-3. Josh Sorensen had an RBI triple to pace the offence.
The spring season had many ups and downs for the Royals, but they showed much more consistency as the season progressed, and made significant improvements both as individuals and as a group. The boys will now enjoy a few weeks of practice before kicking off the summer season with a tourmanent in Cloverdale June 25-29.
