Midget Royals Enjoy Another Perfect 4-0 Weekend

Posted June 15, 2015

Despite having their winning streak snapped at 14 games last week, and then having over a week between games, the Midget AAA Royals continue to play great baseball as they went 4-0 this past weekend to improve their league-leading record to 22-3.

On Saturday the Royals hosted the West Kelowna Diamondbacks at Hammond Stadium.  In the first game, Trevor Reed took the hill and was very solid over 6 innings, allowing only 1 earned run while striking out 3 as the team cruised to an 8-2 win.  Domenic Baptista led the offence with a long home run, while Brayden Slaughter went 2-4 with 2 doubles and 4 runs batted in.

The second game of the day was a much closer affair, which needed 9 innings to determine a winning.  The teams headed to extra innings tied at 3-3.  West Kelowna scored 4 runs in the top of the 8th inning to seemingly secure the win.  However, the Royals, showing the same resiliency they have all season, evened the score by plating 4 of their own in the bottom half, including 3 with two outs.  They then went on to win the game 8-7 with a walk-off in the 9th inning.  Chris Bailey started the game for the Royals, going 7 innings allowing 3 runs (2 earned) while striking out 5.  Santiago Torres went 2-4 with a triple and 3 runs batted in, while Miguel Norquist also tripled and had a pair of runs batted in.  Baptista continued his hot hitting, going 2-4 with an RBI.

On Sunday the Royals played host to the Kelowna Cubs for their final meetings of the season.  The Royals' bats continued to produce, as they put up a combined 24 runs over two 5-inning mercy-rule wins, coming out victorious by scores of 11-1 and 13-3.  In the early game, Baptista was on the mound and threw a complete game allowing just a single run while striking out 6.  Kyron Smith went 3-4 at the plate with an RBI, while Trevor Reed went 2-3 with 3 runs batted in, Jaden Shanley was 2-4 with 2 runs batted in,  and Baptista helped himself out going 1-2 with 2 walks and 2 runs batted in.

The Royals completed the 4-game weekend sweep with another strong performance.  Trevor Biggin went the distance on the hill, allowing only 1 earned run and striking out 6 Kelowna batters.  At the plate, Tristan Reed (2-3, 2 RBI, BB), Baptista (2-3, 2 RBI), Trevor Reed (2-3, BB, 2 RBI), Colton Beard (2-2, BB, RBI), and Josh Biggins (1-3, triple, 3 RBI) all had strong games.

This week, the Royals will travel to Port Moody to take on the Tri-City Indians on Wednesday.  They will then host the White Rock Jr. Tritons in an exhibition game on Thursday before traveling to Vancouver on Saturday to take on the Mounties in a double-header.
