Midget Royals With Another Perfect 4-0 Weekend
Posted July 13, 2015
Although at times it wasn't pretty, the Midget Royals enjoyed their sixth 4-0 weekend of the regular season, improving their regular season record to 37-3 while extending their current league winning streak to 19 games.
On Saturday the Royals traveled to Chilliwack to take on the second-place Cougars. In the first game, both teams struggled to prevent the other from scoring, and the game moved back and forth with the teams exchanging leads. The game ended up going to extras, where the Royals put up three runs in the top of the 8th to secure a 15-12 victory. The second game of the day was a much lower-scoring affair, with Trevor Biggins throwing 5 solid innings to pick up the win in a 4-3 final. Tristan Reed came out of the bullpen to record the two inning save.
On Sunday the Royals traveled to Unwin Park to take on the South Fraser Giants in the teams only meeting of the regular season. Despite playing more less-than-inspired baseball, the Royals again came away with a pair of wins, by scores of 7-4 and 12-11 (in 8 innings). In the first game of the day, Chris Bailey pitched 6.2 innings while allowing only 5 hits and 4 unearned runs while striking out 9 to pick up the win. Trevor Biggin (2-4, 2 RBI), Miguel Norquist (1-3, double, 2 RBI), and Seth Injates (2-4, double, RBI) all contributed to the win at the plate. In the weekend finale, Tristan Reed picked up the win in relief, going 6 innings while giving up 6 runs (2 earned) on 9 hits while striking out 3 batters. The offense was led by Santiago Torres (4-4, 3 runs, walk, RBI), Colton Beard (2-3, 2 doubles, 2 walks), Brayden Slaughter (3-4, 2 RBI), Jaden Shanley (2-5, double, 2 RBI), Trevor Reed (2-2, 2 RBI, 3 runs), and Chris Bailey (1-5, double, RBI).
The Royals will complete the regular season portion of their schedule this week when they host the Aldergrove Dodgers (Tuesday) and Chilliwack Cougars (Wednesday). They will then play a pair of exhibition games this week in preparation for the Provincial Championships which begin next Thursday in Nanaimo.
