Game Notes: Pius opened the Wauwatosa/Brookfield East Tournament with a match-up against Preseason #1 Nicolet. All the games up to this one were important, but the young Popes had this one circled on the schedule. This early season showdown would provide the measuring stick by which Pius could evaluate where it stands versus the big boys. The Popes didn�t disappoint, and showed they will be a factor in 2006 with the 3-2 win. Although the final score was close, Pius squandered several early inning scoring chances with some questionable base running that could have widened the margin a bit more. Peter Behnke was on the Hill for his 2nd start and win of the season, and looked like CY Young for most of the day. There were some anxious moments, but the Popes managed to work themselves out them, most of the time. Pius jumped out to a 3-0 lead after 3-Innings. Nicolet scored 2-Runs in the bottom of the 4th after 2-outs, to close the gap to one run, however, the early lead would hold up today. Nicolet left the bags jammed in the 4th, to end their big threat of the day. Behnke recorded 9-K�s and allowed only 6-Hits against the usually potent Nicolet attack. Pius managed only 4-Hits, Lenski, Doerr, and Foy each had a single, and young Schreck ripped a Double. Saglin, Seagraves, and Lenski scored the Pius runs.
