Midget Royals Complete Remarkable Regular Season with 38-4 Record
Posted July 17, 2015
On Wednesday the Midget Royals completed their 42-game regular season schedule with a loss to the Chilliwack Cougars. The loss marked only the fourth time all season that the Royals had come up on the losing end of a regular season game, and capped an incredible regular season for the club.
The 38 wins are a club record, surpassing the 2011 team who went 37-5. This year's team scored 315 runs (7.5 per game) which is also a club record. They also allowed only 117 (2.79 per game) which was a full 45 fewer (or more than one per game fewer) than the second best mark in the league.
The 2015 edition of the Royals had two extended winning streaks: they won 14 in a row from April 26th to May 31st, and after a loss to Aldergrove, they won another 20 in a row from June 13th to July 14th. All told, they won 34 of their final 36 league games.
The team will now turn their attention to the Provincial Championships, which begin next Thursday in Nanaimo. The club will enter the tournament as the #1 seed by virtue of their league title, and will hope to continue their regular season success into post-season play as they search for their 3rd Provincial title in the last 9 seasons they have fielded a team.
