2016 opens with 11-3 win
Posted April 7, 2016
The 2016 Richmond Chuckers Bantam AAA squad opened league play with a convincing 11-3 win over the Vancouver Mounties last night at Blundell.
A good crowd was on hand for the home opener, including some advance scouts from other Bantam AAA squads. The Chuckers scored often to support some excellent pitching. Justin Thorsteinson got the start and cruised through four innings of work allowing one unearned run on two hits, with no walks and four strikeouts. Gabriel Suessenbacher-Fu threw one inning giving up a pair of runs with three K's, while Duke Howells closed with two solid scoreless innings (four K's). Richmond pitchers were in the strike zone all night, issuing no walks in their seven innings of work.
Offense was spread throughout the lineup with eight players registering a total of 11 hits. Dustin McElwain, Montaro Uyeyama, and Thorsteinson all recorded multi-hit games. Defense is a still a work in progress as cut plays need some work and routine plays need to be more, well, routine.
A good start to the 2016 campaign!
