Orioles Junior Varsity starts off Season Rough; Beats Canton
The Orioles JV team started the season off against Sioux Falls Christian. SFC decided to throw one of their older and more experienced pitchers against Lennox’s JV. Cam Belden started vs Lennox’s freshman Tyson Stoebner. Lennox battled well but down the stretch the Orioles lost 4-3. The Orioles threatened in the fifth but could not push across the tying run as Cole Feterl was thrown out at third to end the game.
The second game of the year for the Orioles JV was against Tea Area. Tea Area started Nick Aielts as their pitcher to face off against Blayne Wallenstein. The Orioles started off nicely as the first two innings were scoreless. Then Lennox added one in the third to take a 1 to 0 lead. However, with Zach Foss coming into pitch and a total of 6 errors in one inning. Tea scored 7 runs and took a 7 to 1 lead. Lennox answered with two runs thanks to Wagner’s RBI single and a passed ball. With the score 7 to 3, Tea Area added three more on two hits and two more errors. Lennox went down in the 5th with little fight and they lost 10 to 3. They had played well pitching and hitting wise, but a team with 8 errors is very hard to get a win. The Orioles JV had fallen to 0 wins and 2 losses.
In the most recent game between Canton JV and Lennox JV, the Orioles started Tyson Stoebner at pitcher. After a quick first inning, Lennox came up and started to do some damage. The Orioles put up 6 runs on 4 walks and 3 hits. The Orioles received hits from Zach Leisinger, Zach Foss and Holden Wagner who doubled to right center. In the top of the second, Canton would put up a huge threat as they would load the bases, however Stoebner worked out of it with 0 runs scored. The Orioles put up another run thanks to Jayden Gayle who singled and then was moved to second when Williams and Lottman earned walks. That is when Tyson Stoebner ripped a single and scored Gayle to make it 7 to 0. The C-Hawks went down in order in the top of the 3rd and the time was 9:30. The state rule says that you can play past 9:30 but if one of the teams wants to stop, the other team has to comply with their idea. If it is a JV game. If somehow a varsity game runs that long, then they should finish. The Orioles JV have been very competitive in the beginning of their season and they will now prepare to try and rebuttal for the loss to Tea as they play Tea Area JV on Wednesday after varsity. So come on out and support the Orioles!
Thanks for reading, have a nice day, and GOOOOOO Orioles!
