Supers Lose in Langenburg, Defeat Roblin

Posted May 19, 2016

Monday May 15: Langenburg Indians 6 Supers 0

The Supers travelled to Langenburg on Monday May 16 to take on the Indians. Unfortunately the bats were silenced by Indians pitchers Matt Poier and Aaron Haas as the Supers were shutout 6-0.

Derek Palagian started on the mound allowing six runs (three earned), nine hits with five strikeouts. Unfortunately a few fielding miscues set the tone early and the Supers were not able to perservere.

The offence could only generate six hits and two walks the entire evening. In the top of the second with runners on second and third with one out, Poier was able to strike out the final two Supers batters of the inning to prevent them from scoring. Evan Rostotski led the way with a single and a double. Also getting hits was Adam Korb with a double, Terry Cumming with a single, plus Jordan Bieber and Rawlee Wyatt with their first hits as Supers.

Tuesday May 16: Supers 19 Roblin Stars 4

The following evening the Supers hosted the Roblin Stars in the home opener. Jordan Bieber made his first pitching start as a Super. After some first inning control issues he settled down and tossed four innings in route to his first win as the Supers took the game 19-4. Bieber's final pitching line was four innings, four hits allowed, four runs (three earned), four walks and five strikeouts. Darcy Blommaert came out of the bullpen to pitch the final two innings as he allowed no runs on one hit and a pair of strikeouts. The game was called in the middle of the sixth due to darkness.

The bats came to life in a big way as the Supers pounded out 18 hits off a trio of Stars pitchers. Derek Palagian led the way with four singles and four runs scored. Travis Mentanko and long time Super Jeff Bahrey each had three hits and three runs scored. This was Bahrey's first home game since the 2010 season. Brogan Legebokoff, Adam Korb and Clint Maduck each had two hits for the Supers as well. Maduck also made his Supers debut as he was summoned up from the Parkland Padres to catch the game. Terry Cumming also chipped in with a double, while Rawlee Wyatt and Evan Rostotski each had a single.

After three games the Supers record is 1 win and 2 losses. Their next action will be Wednesday, May 25 as the Swan River Reds come to town. First pitch is 6:30 PM Sask time
