The Lethbrige Elks wrapped up – and won – the Mary Oikawa Memorial Tournament on a high-scoring note.
Facing the Calgary Redbirds in the final in some windy conditions Sunday afternoon at Spitz Stadium, the Elks cranked out 23 hits on their way to a 30-0 win to capture this year’s tournanemnt title.
“It was a nice way to end the tournament,” said Elks head coach Scott Oikawa. “I think we saw some improvements from the previous week and I think it bodes well going into conference play. Our pitching and defence have been pretty solid and our bats came alive today. It was nice to put those things together and hopefully we can save up some of that offence for conference play.”
Torrin Vaselenak led the Elks with five hits in Sunday afternoon’s win, while Tevin Hall, Shawn Grandmont and Wyatt Tomalty each had three hits.
