Supers June Recap

Posted June 21, 2016

The Supers rolled into June with an impressive record of 5 wins and 2 losses while riding a 5 game winning streak. The streak got up to 7 games with an 8-0 victory in Yorkton over the Parkland Padreson June 2nd, and an 11-5 win over Langenburg Indians on June 6.

Jordan Bieber threw 5 innings vs the Padres, while striking out 9 to pick up the win. The defence played solid and the bats were alive.

Against Langenburg, the big three power hitters Kody Rock, Phil Sobkow, and Travis Mentanko each hit a home run and each had at least 3 rbis. Darcy Blommaert tossed six solid innings to pick up the win on the mound.

Unfortunately on June 8 the winning streak ended at seven games at the hands of the Willowbrook Royals as Tanner Nesbitt limited the Supers to just a handful of hits in a 4-1 loss. Jordan Bieber pitched well in defeat as runs were hard to come by for both teams.

Next up came a visit from the perennial powerhouse Yorkton Yankees on June 10. The wind was blowing toward left field, causing some hardship for the fielders. The Supers scored in every inning of the game, highlighted by homeruns from Tom Cook, Greg Andreychuk, and Logan Parachoniak. With a 14-7 lead going into the 7th inning, the lead seemed safe. But after some timely hitting by the Yankees, the score was suddenly 14-11 with the bases loaded. Fortunately Colby Parachoniak was able to record the final out and the Supers were able to pull off the win.

On June 13th, 7 Supers and Yorkton Oriole callups Ron Sopko and Clint Prier made the treck to Russell. After a see saw affair, the Bulls put up 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th and held on for an 8-4 win. Scott Sharp made his first pitching start of the season. He pitched well but the defence had an off night as several miscues led to some unearned runs. Prier led the way offensively with a single and a double.

The following evening the Supers faced the Yorkton Orioles in Yorkton. This game featured a 16 player batting order for the Supers. 10 Supers hits led to 9 runs in 1 9-5 victory. Darcy Blommaert got the win, while Derek Palagian got the save on the mound. The highlight of the game was Supers Rawlee Wyatt sending a solid single to center field off of his dad Chris Wyatt. bragging rights go to the junior member of the Wyatt family.

The season finale was Monday, June 20 in Roblin. It was another see-saw game with the Supers ahead 7-5 going into the bottom of the 7th. Unfortunately a couple hits and a wild pitch allowed Roblin to push across the tying run, and the game ended up 7-7. Chris Newans had a single, double, and a home run to lead the Supers offensively. Scott Sharp had two sharply hit doubles while Adam Korb had two singles.

The regular season ends with a record of 9 wins, 4 losses, and 1 tie. Playoffs do not start until the second week of July so the Supers will look to play a few exhibition games to stay sharp. One of those ehhibition games will take place on Friday, June 24 in Yorkton vs the Rawtec Ramblers midget team of Yorkton. First pitch is scheduled for 6PM at Jubilee Park diamond #2 in Yorkton
