The St. Peter town team extended its winning streak to 10 games Wednesday at Waterville, defeating the Indians 10-4 after posting a seven-run inning. The non-league victory moves the Saints to 15-5 overall as they have won 13 of their last 14 games.
Waterville struck first in the second frame, taking advantage of erratic pitching from Saints starter Alex Klug. Klug walked two batters, beaned another two, and threw a wild pitch allowing two runs. Klug then slowly found a rhythm and lasted eight innings, allowing three runs. He finished with seven hits allowed, two strikeouts, and five walks, improving to 2-2 on the season.
St. Peter took the lead in the fifth inning with three runs on three hits and two walks. Seth Wenner drove in a pair of runs with a bloop-single to right field and Jeff Menk knocked in the third run of the frame with another single.
CJ Siewert started the seven-run eighth inning with a leadoff double. He then scored on a single by Jordan Wilmes. Ty Kaus and Jovan Rodriguez both singled and the next three batters where walked, making the score 7-2. An error, double by Sam Wenner, and a hit by pitch resulted in the next three runs for the Saints.
Kevin Sandborg pitched the ninth inning, allowing one run on a hit and two walks. Kaus (2-5, 2 R, BB), Seth Wenner (2-3, R, 2 BB, 3 RBI), and Wilmes (2-3, R, SB, RBI) led the team at the plate.
St. Peter hosts Jordan at 7:30 p.m. today (July 21) in a battle for first place in the RVL. The Brewers hold a 12-1 league record, while the Saints are 11-2, but St. Peter beat Jordan 4-2 on June 26.
