Season Ends in Frustrating Fashion

Posted July 24, 2016

Round two of the playoffs came and went quickly as the Supers once again could not solve the neverending puzzle of the Langenburg Indians, losing in two straight games in the best of three series. It is now the third time in four years the Supers season has been ended by Langenburg

Game 1 was Tuesday, July 19 in Canora. Although the Supers had opportunities, they just could not cash them in as Indians pitcher Dane Kobylko kept the Supers in check allowing just 2 unearned runs in a 6-2 Supers loss.

Fielding and baserunning blunders also haunted the Supers in this contest. Perennial league home run king Travis Mentanko had bases loaded and 2 outs twice. Luckily for Langenburg they were able to escape unscathed and were able to leave Canora victorious, breathing a huge sigh of relief.

Derek Palagian and Darcy Blommaert pitched well in defeat, but just did not get the necessary help from the supporting cast.

The once promising 2016 baseball season came to an abrupt halt on Thursday, July 21 in Langenburg as the Supers fell 16-10.

After scoring 3 in the top of the first, it appeared the Supers would be in fine form, Unfortunately the Langenburg bats came alive like never before, and the Supers found themselves trailing 7-4 after two innings.

Baserunning blunders, sloppy fielding, the inability to prevent Indians baserunners from stealing bases, and a struggling pitching staff proved to be the Supers downfall as the game got ugly fast. At one point the Indians had a 15-4 lead but in the final two innings the Supers mounted a furious rally but in the end needed three more baserunners to get the tying and go-ahead runs to the plate with Sluggers Phil Sobkow and Travis Mentanko ominously waitiing in the wings.

Although the season ended bitterly, the Supers saw great improvement from their 2015 season. The Supers record was 6 wins 8 losses in 2015, finishing in 6th place. In 2016 the record was 9 wins, 4 losses and 1 tie which was good enough for 2nd place.

The Supers would like to thank everyone from the players, volunteers and fans for their support. The future looks bright with a good mix of veterans and youth going forward into 2017 and beyond
