LMBA Teams Playing in Inaugural Americas Master Games
Sixteen teams from the Lower Mainland Baseball Association will be appearing in the 2016 Americas Masters Games. The teams come from the Masters Divisions in Canada's largest adult baseball league. They are all looking forward to being part of the celebration of masters' athletics and they intend to put on a good show so we encourage everyone to drop by and check out the "OLD BOYS of SUMMER."
On Saturday, August 27th 6 teams from the LMBA's 45+ Division will be in action at two first class venues. The Surrey Royals and the White Rock Legends will square off at beautiful Hillcrest Park at 10:00am. The diamond is in outstanding condition thanks to the combined efforts of the Vancouver Parks Board and Vancouver Community Baseball.
Two games will be played on the UBC Thunderbirds baseball diamond on the UBC campus and we owe thanks to Terry McKaig and his Thunderbirds baseball organization for allowing baseball to be played in and amongst the other sports on campus. First game on Saturday goes at 9:00am and it features the White Rock Eagles visiting the Richmond Monarchs. The feature game will start at 12:30pm and it involves the current first place team Vancouver Pirates playing the second place Delta Stars.
On Sunday, August 28th the LMBA's 30+ Division will swing into action with two games at Hillcrest Park and three contests at UBC. Hillcrest action starts at 10:00am with the Surrey Angels hosting the Surrey Sentinels and the 1:30pm game features the New Westminster Mariners entertaining the Fraser Valley Cubs. Three games at UBC will showcase six top teams from the LMBA's 30+ Division - at 9:00am the Richmond Rainiers will host the Burnaby Pirates. The Howe Sound Hounds (nine times division champions) follow at 11:30am as they host the Vancouver A's. The final game goes at 2:00pm and features the first place Burnaby Blue Jays facing the Aldergrove Giants.
As part of the Americas Masters Games closing weekend, baseball will be played at Hillcrest Park and it will be an all star affair featuring two All Star teams from the LMBA's senior players. First pitch on Saturday, September 3 will be at 10:00am and we are hoping to include Gary Pennington, the AMG Baseball Ambassador in the lineup - Gary is an absolute 80 year old marvel and an inspiration to everyone.
Approximately 200 players from the Lower Mainland Baseball Association welcome the opportunity to showcase their talents and they send along best wishes to the AMG Committee for a successful event. Congratulations to all of the participants in all of the sports and enjoy the experience.
