| Game Notes: Chalk up another one that slipped into the loss column that shouldn’t have. After a valiant comeback in the bottom of the 6th, Pius fell to Arrowhead 4-3 in 8-Innings. On the first pitch of the game Arrowhead’s Volkmann went yard for a really quick 1-0 lead. Pius hung tough and threatened in a couple of innings only to run itself out of any potential scoring chances. Starter Peter Behnke kept things close as Pius only trailed 2-0 heading into the home half of the 6th. One had the feeling that if we could keep some runners on base we might get to the Arrowhead pitcher. As it turned out, it happened in the bottom of the 6th. Tim Pauly led things off with BB, Dan Foy followed with a Single (Salinas into run for Foy), Justin Hunt Singled to right to plate Pauly with Salinas advancing to 3rd. Now we’re in business, still 1st & 3rd, no outs. After a groundout, Steve Lenksi stepped in and ripped an RBI Dbl to right center tying the score at 3 apiece. A successful pick off play at 1st base, and a strikeout ended the Pius rally. Pius threatened again in the 8th but 2 consecutive strikeouts left the tying run standing at 2nd base to end the game. Scott Perry came on to relieve Behnke in the 7th and was tagged with the loss. This one was bitter, as the home plate umpire was definitely having a bad day. Dan Foy and Scott Schreck led Pius with 2-Hits each. Pius dropped to 6-5 in conference play. Still in it, but must go 8-2 (in last 10 games) to have a chance. | |||||||||||
