ULZHEIMER EARNS MAAC SOFTBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Amanda Ulzheimer earned the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Week award after leading the Fairfield University softball team to a 3-1 record at the Patriot Classic last weekend.

Her week started with three hits in as many at-bats against Columbia University, the first of two three-hit games during the weekend. She also added a pair of walks in the game, putting her on base five times. Ulzheimer translated those opportunities into four runs and three stolen bases, helping the Stags defeat the Lions.

She followed up with a hit in three at-bats with a walk in a victory over George Mason, and picked up another single in three plate appearances against Army West Point. She capped her weekend with three hits in three at-bats again as well as registering a walk to give her four appearances on the base paths. Once again, she used those chances to steal a couple of bases and score a run in the win over George Mason.

For the week, Ulzheimer batted .667 (8 of 12) and owned a .750 on-base percentage in her four starts as an outfielder. She did not strikeout in any of her 16 plate appearances over the weekend. For the season, Ulzheimer is Fairfield’s top hitter with a .591 batting average.

The Fairfield University softball team, under the guidance of Head Coach Julie Brzezinski, will continue its season with 12 games in 10 days during its annual trip to Florida. The week begins on March 11 when the Stags will take on Florida International University for a pair of games.
