Caryn Bailey Named To All-CAA First Team

Harrisonburg, Va. – Senior pitcher Morgan Lashley and junior outfielders Caryn Bailey and Chloe Fitzgerald were named to the Colonial Athletic Association's all-first team, it was announced tonight.

Erin Trippi, a senior catcher, was named to the All-CAA second team along with senior pitcher Taylor Pirone, junior third baseman Kim Smith and sophomore second baseman Lacey Clark. Freshman outfielder Brielle Pietrafesa garnered a spot on the All-Rookie squad. Fitzgerald was named Hofstra's selection to the All-CAA Academic team.

Voting was done via a ballot of the league's eight head coaches. James Madison swept the major awards as Jailyn Ford won the league's Player of the Year, Megan Good won Pitcher and Rookie of the Year, catcher Erica Field won Defensive Player of the Year and Mickey Dean was the Coach of the Year.

Lashley earned her second career All-CAA selection and was tabbed to the first team for the first time. After transferring from Army before the 2014 season, Lashley went 17-5 last year to garner second-team honors and made the first team in 2015 following a 19-1 regular season in which she won 19 consecutive decisions since an Opening Day loss. Lashley has struck out 160 batters in 147 2/3 innings in posting a 1.85 ERA. Lashley is 36-6 in her Hofstra career and is 98-36 in her collegiate career. Lashley needs one more win to tie Callie Osborne (2004-05) for the ninth-most wins in Hofstra history.

Bailey has also skyrocketed up Hofstra's career record book. The Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania native earned her second career All-CAA first team pick and first since her 2013 freshman campaign by hitting a career-high 12 home runs in the regular season while driving in a team-high 44 runs and collecting 107 total bases and slugging .690. She posted an on-base percentage of .464 and went 9-for-9 in stolen bases, drawing more walks (24) than strikeouts (23).

Fitzgerald, the 2014 CAA batting champion, had another strong season at the plate. Her .367 average is second only to Bailey's .381 mark entering the week, which helped the Prince Frederick, Maryland product to a first-team pick for the second straight season. Fitzgerald has scored 32 runs in starting all 46 games.

Trippi, the only four-year starter on the Hofstra roster, capped a stretch of earning All-CAA recognition in all four of her collegiate seasons. The backstop was picked to the second team for a second straight year (she also was first-team catcher in 2013 and a first-team pick as a designated player in 2012). Trippi caught the first 43 games of the season and extended her streak to 151 starts at catcher before sitting out the final regular season series at the College of Charleston. Trippi has 16 RBIs this season and has drawn 20 walks.

Pirone earned three CAA Pitcher of the week awards and carries a 15-10 record with a 1.96 ERA. A versatile threat as a starter and reliever, the New Rochelle, New York native also registered four saves.  Pirone was a first-team All-CAA pick in 2014 and earned postseason recognition in both of her seasons at Hofstra since transferring from Fordham.

Smith ended the regular season on a tear and upped her season average to .318 with five home runs and 24 RBIs while starting all 46 games. While manning the hot corner, she helped Pirone and Lashley hold teams to a .225 batting-average against and earned her first career All-CAA selection by slugging .473.

Clark earned All-CAA second team honors in her second straight collegiate season. After hitting .280 as a freshman last year, she increased her average to .328 and more than doubled her previous career highs by hitting five home runs and driving in 29 runs. She has appeared in all 46 games in her first season as the full-time second baseman.

Pietrafesa emerged as the everyday right fielder and is hitting .280. Her seven home runs is tied for second on the team and her 23 RBIs has provided Head Coach Larissa Anderson with a run producer in the bottom of the order.
