Supers Win Sloppy Opener in Grandview
Posted May 7, 2017
The Supers travelled to Grandview for the first time in eight years on Saturday May 6 to take on the Lakers. Although the boys did not play their best, they were able to pull out an 11-7 victory
Things looked bleak early on as the Supers stranded the bases loaded in the first while Grandview scored four runs in the bottom half to take a 4-0 lead. Although the Supers were only able to get five hits the entire game, they took advantage of some wild Lakers pitching by drawing seventeen walks, a hit batter and several wild pitches to string a few rallies together.
Logan Parachoniak started on the mound for the Supers. Although the first inning was a struggle, he settled down after and eventually picked up the win. Once he ran out of gas in the fifth inning, his brother Colby Parachoniak slammed the door on the Lakers to get the save. Logan struck out eight, while giving up seven runs (four earned) while allowing only four singles. Colby had three strikeouts without allowing a hit.
Defensively the Supers showed some early season rust by committing four errors. On the bright side Evan Rostotski made a nice running catch in right field while Matt Wilgosh, making his Supers debut at catcher threw a baserunner out attempting to steal third.
Offensively, Colby Parachoniak led the way with a double and two rbi. Terry Cumming had a key two rbi single in the top of the fifth to break the game open. Derek Palagian had an rbi single, while Evan Rostotski had an rbi single and four walks. Ivan Cote made his Supers debut and also had one single
With the victory the Supers are now 1-0 on the season. The next game will be Wednesday, May 10 as the Supers invade Jubilee Park in Yorkton to take on the Back Forty Brewers. First pitch is slated for 6:15PM
