AMANDA ULZHEIMER EARN ALL-MAAC SOFTBALL HONORS

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Courtney Hankins and Amanda Ulzheimer were named to the All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) second team as the conference released its annual postseason awards. Ulzheimer also received a berth to the MAAC All-Rookie team. The selections were based on vote by the conference's head coaches.

Hankins, who captured the MAAC Player of the Week on Monday, leads the team in hitting with a .350 batting average which also ranks among the top 10 in the MAAC. The sophomore is also the team's leader in doubles (11) and RBI (34). She registered a hit in 30 of her 48 appearances which helped her post a .399 on-base percentage. Over her two seasons with the Stags, Hankins has 95 hits in 95 career appearances with 22 doubles and seven home runs. She is a career .354 hitter as well.

Ulzheimer ended the regular season as the conference's top hitting freshman with a .357 batting average, a number which led the team prior to the start of the MAAC tournament. The outfielder leads the team with 16 stolen bases (21 attempts) as well as runs scored (33). After not starting the first three games of the year, she is in the midst of 46 straight starts and is one of only two Stags to play in every game this season. She recorded a pair of eight-game hitting streaks during the 2017 campaign. She earned the MAAC Rookie of the Week after batting .667 the week of March 1.

The Fairfield University softball team, under the guidance of Head Coach Julie Brzezinski, owns a 23-26 overall record after a 5-3 win over Marist College in the 2017 MAAC Championship Tournament. The Stags continue play in the tournament on May 9 with a 9 am game against second-seeded Siena College.
