Hailing from Carmel, N.Y., Sammy Fernandez earns her first NFCA regional honor at shortstop.
A Health and Physical Education major in the School of Education, Fernandez owns a pair of single-season offensive records for SU in hits (197) and at-bats (195), both of which were previously held by Lisaira Daniels in 2011.
Fernandez converted for the Orange on both offense and defense, as the junior finished the season with a third-best .358 batting average. She led 'Cuse in hits (72) and at-bats (201), while holding a slugging percentage of .438 and an on-base percentage of .374. Hitting in the lead-off spot, Fernandez struck out just 11 times in 50 games. She also led the Orange in stolen bases (16) and held two 11-game hit streaks throughout the season.
