Saints Bust Out The Bats In Sweep Over Henderson

ST. PETER, Minn. – The St. Peter town team swept Henderson in a two-game series over the weekend, scoring a total of 27 runs on 37 hits to remain unbeaten in the River Valley League. The Saints defeated the Tigers 12-3 on Friday at Veterans Field and completed the regular season series sweep Sunday on the hilltop in Henderson with a 15-8 decision. The local nine also hosted Class B Chaska Tuesday and lost 7-5. After the first 10 games of the season, the Saints are 7-3 overall and 6-0 in the RVL.
On Friday night, the Saints scored 10 runs in the first four innings and never looked back. Jovan Rodriguez, Shea Roehrkasse, Jayme Munsterman, and Jordan Wilmes contributed three hits each as the team collected 20 hits all together. Jeff Wenner earned the win on the mound after tossing seven innings. He allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out one batter.
The local nine continued their hot streak Sunday afternoon in Henderson, collecting 17 hits and winning by seven runs. The Saints took a 1-0 lead in the first, added a run in the third, and continued to extend their lead with three runs in the fifth, three in the sixth, two in the eighth, and five in the ninth.
Ryan Kapsner was the player of the game, going 6-for-6 with five runs, and five RBI after two home runs. Rodriguez also had a five-RBI game, going 3-for-5 with a grand slam. Rookie Alex Hoehn contributed a season-high three hits and four runs. Luke Schwarz got the win after six innings pitched. He allowed two runs on seven hits with six strikeouts.
St. Peter next competes in the annual High Life Invite over the weekend, hosted by Arlington and Gaylord. The Saints take on Fairmont at 12:15 p.m. Saturday in Arlington and then face either the winner or loser of Savage vs. Blaine later that day.
