ARLINGTON, Minn. – The St. Peter amateur baseball club erased a three-run deficit in the first inning Tuesday at Arlington and proceeded to put up crooked numbers en route to an 11-4 victory. The league win moves the Saints to 14-7 overall and 9-2 in the River Valley League.
The A’s took advantage of erratic pitching by Jeff Wenner to start the game as he walked three, beaned one, and gave up a two-run single, giving the home team a 3-0 advantage. St. Peter responded with two runs in both the second and third innings to go ahead 4-3, but the A’s answered in the bottom half to tie the game.
The Saints broke the tie in the fifth, scoring five runs on three hits, two walks, and a hit-by-pitch. STP added two more insurance runs in the eighth after consecutive walks and a gap single by Andy Regner.
Wenner got the mound win after five innings. He allowed four runs on three hits, three walks, and two strikeouts. Jesse Anderson and Jeremy Braun each tossed two scoreless innings of relief. Ryan Kapsner went 2-for-5 with a run and two RBI, while Ty Kaus and CJ Siewert both reached base 4-of-5 plate appearances – Kaus with three walks and single, and Siewert with four walks.
St. Peter hosts Blue Earth at 7:30 p.m. Friday and then travels to Winsted at 1 p.m. Sunday for a pair on non-league games.
