Hempstead, N.Y. – Freshman pitcher Sophie Dandola from the Hofstra Softball team has been named Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
The Seaford, New York, native pitched 11.0 innings for the Pride this weekend, including going to distance in a 1-0, eight-inning shutout win over Florida A&M. The shutout was her second of the season as she struck out five and allowed just three hits. She also appeared in relief against Texas Tech, pitching 3.0 innings, striking out two and allowing just one hit and one run. She issued just one walk this weekend.
She currently holds a 1.91 ERA and a 2-1 record. Her Rookie of the Week honor marks her first CAA recognition, while Hofstra has now picked up a weekly honor in each of the first two weeks of the season.
After today's matchup against North Florida, the Pride will take a 10-day hiatus before resuming play on Friday, March 2, at the Florida State Unconquered Invitational.
