UMass softball infielder Jena Cozza was named the UMass Student-Athlete of the Week as announced by the sports luncheon committee on Monday after their performances last week.
Cozza (Wantagh, N.Y.) posted a .583 batting average to go along with six runs scored, two doubles, a home run and eight RBI as the Minutewomen went 2-2 over the weekend at the St. John's Softball Invitational. Cozza recorded a base for every at-bat, slugging 1.000 to go along with a .688 on-base percentage. She opened up a 12-9 win over Binghamton with a home run on the very first pitch, her ninth of the year, on her way to finishing the game 3-3 with three runs and four RBI while adding two walks. On Sunday, Cozza picked up a pair of base hits against both Boston University and St. John's, including a two-hit, four RBI performance in a 5-inning run-rule win over the Red Storm, 12-2.
