ST. PETER, Minn. – The St. Peter town team dropped a 7-2 decision to Jordan on Friday at Veterans Field, marking its first Class C loss of the young season. The Saints, who are 0-3, are off to their worst start since 2011 when they started the season 0-7, but went on to win the River Valley League West playoffs.
Jordan started Friday’s game with three runs in the first inning after three singles and a double. The Saints responded in the second frame as CJ Siewert and Billy Hanson hit consecutive singles, advanced a bag on a groundout by Nate Wenner, and scored on consecutive singles by Sam Wenner and Ty Kaus. That would be all the scoring for the home town nine, though, as the Brewers were able to tack on four more insurance runs. They scored one in the third, two in the fifth, and one in the sixth.
Jesse Anderson suffered his first loss of the season in his third start. Anderson went five innings with six runs allowed on 12 hits. Cullen Bruce relieved Anderson for the third straight game and had his best appearance of the season, pitching four innings and not allowing a hit. He struck out four and walked two with one unearned run allowed. Kaus (2-5, RBI), Shea Roehrkasse (2-4), Hanson (2-4, R), and Sam Wenner (2-4, RBI) led the team at the plate.
St. Peter travels to Prior Lake on Friday night for its third Class B matchup of the season. The team then hosts its eighth annual golf tournament on Saturday afternoon at Shoreland Country Club. Registrations are open to the public and will be accepted through Friday (call 507-779-4135 for details). And at 4 p.m. Sunday, the Saints will face Fairfax at the newly-renovated Gustavus baseball field.
