Outlaws slow out of the gate to start 2018
Posted June 11, 2018
The Outlaws start the 2018 season with the biggest, and youngest roster they have had in years.
New to the squad are graduating Midget players Aaron Coverett, Nathan Kappel, Kaije Derkachenko, Eric Mcneilly, Chace Davidson, Brody Vogel , and Jared Binsfeld. As well as veteran right hander Sean Hoey.
The season opener saw the Outlaws take on the Hoppers at Cairns. Parker Mcrae threw a complete game shutout for the Hoppers, leading them to the 5 - 0 victory. The Outlaws managed a few hits here and there, but not enough to lend any run support to Sean and Marco who had solid outings.
Game 2 saw Danno and Lindy combine for 7 scoreless innings against the Stallions. The bats mangaed to produce 5 runs and the Outlaws got in the win column.
Game 3 , Gimmer took the bump and pitched 5 solid innings , giving up 1 run. The bats fell silent as Schultzy from the Diggers kept the Outlaws off balance with his off speed offerings. Sean came in for a scoreless 6th, however some control issues in the 7th, and a couple timely hits, the Diggers went up 6 to 2. The Outlaws threatened the comeback in the 7th but came up short, losing 6 to 4.
Games 4 and 5 were the annual trek out to Marysburg for a double dip. Even with the size of the roster we currently have, we were only able to put together a squad of 10 for the day.
Lindy threw game 1 and turned in one hell of a performance, allowing 1 run through 7 innings of work. Only problem is that the bats fell silent again, coming up with 3 hits and zero run support. Tough 1-0 loss.
A.C threw the second game, and pitched strikes, however the potent Marysburg bats got to him and produced 12 runs in 5 innings. The Outlaws managed to score a run on a solo blast from Sassafras, however that was all they could muster, getting mercied 12-1 in 5 innings.
Next action for the Outlaws is Monday June 11, when they hope to break the funk and get back on the winning track against the Dodgers. Game time is 6:30 at Cairns.
