Outlaws off to slow start for 2018
Posted June 11, 2018
The Saskatoon Outlaws start out the 2018 season, boasting the biggest and youngest line up they have had in years.
New to the squad are graduating midget players Aaron Coverett, Nathan Kappel, Kaije Derkachenko, Eric McNeilly, Chace Davidson, Brody Vogel, and Jared Binsfeld.
As well as veteran right hander Sean Hoey.
The Outlaws season opener was against The Hoppers. Parker Mcrae of the Hoppers threw a complete game shutout for the 5- 0 win.
The bats managed some hits , but too far and few between to generate any runs. Sean and Marco settled in and had solid outings.
Game 2 saw Danno and Lindy split a 7 inning shutout against the Stallions. In this game the boys managed to get some run support , leading to the 5- 0 victory, and getting the Outlaws in the win column.
Game 3, Gimmer took the bump against the Diggers and went 5 strong, allowing 1 run. Schultzy from the Diggers kept the Outlaws bats off balance with his off speed variety. Sean came in for a scoreless
6th, but ran into some control issues and a couple timely hits in the 7th, allowing 5 runs. The Outlaws chipped away and put themselves in position for the come back, but came up short, falling 6 to 4.
Games 4 and 5 were the annual trek out to Marysburg for a double dip. Despite the size of our line up, we were able to only muster up 10 guys for the day.
Game 1 saw Lindy throw an absolute gem, only to come up short, due to a lack of run support, ending up with a tough 1-0 loss.
Game 2 , A.C took the mound, and although he threw strikes, the potent Marysburg offence put up 12 runs in 5 innings. The Outlaws managed one run on a solo blast from Sassafras.
Marysburg took it 12-1 in 5 innings.
Next action for the Outlaws is June 11 vs the Dodgers, 6 30 at Cairns. Hopefully the bats will come alive, and get the boys back on the winning track.
