The St. Peter amateur baseball club went 1-1 on the road in River Valley League action last weekend and then dropped a low-scoring affair with Class B Victoria. On Friday the Saints were edged 10-7 at Arlington before out-slugging Henderson 14-12 Sunday. The local nine then lost 3-0 at Veterans Field to Victoria on Tuesday.

The Saints took a 2-0 lead right away in the first inning, but gave up seven unanswered and were never able to climb out of the hole. They made it a one-run game in the sixth frame at 8-7, but two insurance runs by the A’s in the seventh proved to be enough.
Cullen Bruce took the loss after four innings, allowing three earned runs on eight hits. Jeff Menk led the offense, going 3-for-4 with a walk.

The Saints never trailed Sunday on the hilltop, doing most of the damage late with three runs in each of the sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth innings. The Tigers made a strong comeback effort in the ninth with six runs off injured reliever Jeff Wenner, but starter Jesse Anderson reentered the game and completed the victory, moving his record to 2-1.
Anderson struck out six and gave up 12 hits in 8.2 innings. Steven Nessler led the hit parade, going 3-for-6 with three runs, two doubles, and three RBI. Jovan Rodriguez was perfect at the dish, batting 2-for-2 with a no-doubt home run to center, four walks, and two RBI.

After averaging eight runs in its last four games, St. Peter was shut out for the second time this season and limited to just three hits.
In his first appearance of the season, Kevin Sandborg had a quality start with six shutout innings in seven innings of work. He surrendered two runs in the fourth after four-straight hits, which proved to be enough. Parker Baron allowed one run in the eighth and Menk knuckle-balled a scoreless ninth in their first career appearances.
St. Peter (2-6, 2-2 RVL) plays in the annual High Life Invite at Arlington and Gaylord this weekend. They face Watertown at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Arlington and St. Michael at 1:15 p.m. Saturday in Gaylord to start a newly formatted pool play.
