2018 Kenosee Champs!

Posted July 3, 2018

The Outlaws headed down to Kenosee Lake on Thursday for the annual Big Moose ball tournament.

First order of business was setting up camp, in which Lindy and Arty created a much needed tarped up shanty town.

The rain was falling hard ,but the boys were able to hang out by the fire and have some cold beverages , and some good laughs.

Friday gave us and the Stallions a beautiful morning for the Kenosee cup golf tournament. The Outlaws managed to maintain the title, however the Stallions put up a good fight. As always , she was a good time with those guys on the course.

As the rain kept falling , doubts were cast if there would be any ball played on the weekend. However the Carlyle grounds crew did a hell of a job getting the diamonds ready to play. There were a few delays, but stayed pretty close to the original schedule.

First game for the Outlaws was against Carlyle. Lindy got the start , and kept the Carlyle bats quiet, allowing 2 runs. The Carlyle pitcher had a good game as well, but ran out of gas near the end , and the Outlaws ended up winning their opener 5 to 2.

Second game was against Muenster, and Lindy figured while he was loose, he may as well keep going. Not as dominant as the first game, he managed to pitch another 7 innings en route to the 10-5 win.

This put the Outlaws in a good position heading into Sunday.

Saturday night was the home run derby. The Outlaws sent a youth movement in this year, with Sassafras taking one spot, and Kayde Kinaschuk , making his Kenosee derby debut. Both came up short , but did a good job representing.

Our big money fella from Estevan placed 3rd, so we got some cash back from the Calcutta, but not the big money. Jon Neuberger from the Stallions ended up with the derby title, representing the righties .

Sunday saw the Outlaws take on Arm River at noon in Carlyle. The winner of this game would win the pool and be off to the final. The Outlaws jumped out to an 8-0 lead after 2 innings, and then the skies opened up.

The rain came hard and fast, and after about half an hour it was evident the Carlyle field was unplayable. The game was to be finished at Kenosee, but Arm River decided this was pretty much over , and conceded the win to the Outlaws.

This set up a final between two 3-0 teams, The Outlaws and the Swift Current Yard Goats. Sassafras continued on the mound from the first game.

Swift jumped out to a 2- 0 lead mid-way through, but as has been the case the last few weeks, the boys didn’t go away, getting one in the 5th to cut the lead to 2-1. Lindy led off the bottom of 6 with a single, Tyrone followed up with one as well, then 2 straight bean balls to Brody and Soda, and the game was tied. Chace came up and hit a huge 2 rbi single, putting the Outlaws up 4 to 2. Jordan continued his strong outing on the mound , and retired the Swift batters in order in the top of 7.

This capped off one of the most memorable Kenosee wins ever for the Outlaws. A roster of 10 guys, including 2- 15 year olds, managed to scrap their way to another title. Well done Boys!

Special thanks to Kayde and Nick for playing this weekend, and playing well. Also, we couldn’t have done it without solid equipment management, provided by Donovan Edwards.

The boys now have some time to rest up, with the next action being Sunday July 8th, 9:00 at Cairns, against the Guns.
