After a back and forth month of June, the St. Peter amateur baseball club has found a stride, winning its fifth-straight game Sunday at Fairfax. The Saints completed the series sweep over the Cardinals with a 7-5 win, improving to 9-8 overall and 7-4 in the River Valley League. The local nine started the winning streak July 8 with a 10-4 win over Arlington and beat Cleveland 13-3 in eight innings on July 13 – both at Veterans Field. They then swept Le Sueur with a 7-4, 10-inning win on July 15 followed by a 13-6 victory Friday night at Veterans Field.
The Saints have secured at least the No. 4 seed in Region 6C and could finish as high as second by winning their final three games. STP hosts Henderson on Wednesday and Belle Plaine Friday night, and then travels to Gaylord next Sunday for the final playoff seeding game. Region playoffs start Aug. 4.
St. Peter 7, Fairfax 5 | Box Score
Jesse Anderson earned his sixth win of the season in a complete game effort, while the offense was able to erase an early three-run deficit at Memorial Park. Trailing 5-3 in the seventh, the Saints plated three runs to take the lead and added an insurance run in the eighth to secure the win. Ty Kaus and Billy Hanson had three hits apiece, while CJ Siewert knocked in three runs. The team totaled 14 hits on the day, matching a season high.
St. Peter 13, Le Sueur 6 | Box Score
The Saints jumped out to a 10-0 lead after three innings and never looked back. Kevin Sanborg tossed eight innings with four earned runs to claim his first win of the season, while Andy Regner pitched a scoreless ninth with two strikeouts. Regner also led the team at the plate, batting 3-for-4 with a run and two RBI. The Saints collected 11 hits total.
St. Peter 7, Le Sueur 4 (10 inn.) | Box Score
Le Sueur held a 3-2 lead in the second frame and the score never changed until the bottom of the eighth when the home team added an insurance run for a 4-2 advantage. But the Saints answered with two runs in the ninth to send the game into extras and tacked on three more in the 10th – all five runs batted in by Austin Pinke – and held on for the three-run victory.
Jesse Anderson went eight innings on the mound in a no-decision, while Regner earned the win in two innings of scoreless relief. Pinke and Hunter Wilmes had three hits apiece as the team tallied 13 base-knocks.
St. Peter 13, Cleveland 3 (8 inn.) | Box Score
A five-run first inning was all the Saints needed in a run-rule-shortened game. Cullen Bruce got the mound victory after six innings with two runs. Sanborg threw three innings with one run allowed. Ryan Kapsner paced the offense, going 3-for-5 with a pair of runs and RBI.
St. Peter 10, Arlington 4 | Box Score
The hometown nine scored in all but two innings to salvage a series split against the A’s. Four runs in the third frame and two more in the fourth propelled the scoring barrage. Ty Kaus led the team at the plate with three hits, two runs, and an RBI. Anderson picked up the win after five innings of work with two runs (zero earned) on four hits. Regner threw three innings of relief, allowing two unearned runs, and Sanborg pitched a shutout ninth.
