Supers Fall to Langenburg in 3 Game Thriller

Posted July 31, 2018

It was not the end result the Supers were hoping for, but the Supers pushed the Langenburg Legends as far as they could in the best of three semi final series.

Game 1: Supers 1 at Langenburg 6

On Monday July 23 the Supers were in Langenburg for game 1 of the best of 3 series. The Supers loaded the bases in the top of the first with none out but could only manage one run on a double play before the Legends got out of trouble. The score remained 1-0 Supers until the bottom of the fourth where the Legends pushed across 3 runs. The Legends scored 3 more in the sixth to seal the deal.

Derek Palagian threw 5 2/3 innings allowing 6 runs (3 earned) to take the loss. He gave up 7 hits and had 6 strikeouts. Colby Parachoniak threw 1/3 of an inning to finish off.

The Supers managed only four hits on the evening highlighted by Logan Parachoniaks' two singles. Phil Sobkow and Ian Quewezance had one hit each.

Game 2: Langenburg 7 at Supers 12

The following evening the teams were back at it in Canora, but this game was featured a lot more offence as Langenburg hit everything in sight to take a 5-0 lead after one inning. The Supers would come to within 1 in the bottom of the fourth before the Legends restored the lead to 3 in the top of 4. The Supers would cut the lead to 7-6 in the bottom of 4 before blowing the game open with 6 in the 5th to take 1 12-7 victory.

Kholton Shewchuk started on the mound, allowing 7 runs (6 earned) on 7 hits in 4 innings to get the no decision. Adam Korb came in relief tossing 3 innings of 1 hit ball with 3 strikeouts to pick up the win.

Travis Mentanko had a two run homer over center to lead the way with the bats. Ian Quewezance had a double and two singles. Phil Sobkow had a double and single, while Logan Parachoniak had two singles. Sean Kolodziejski had one hit but drew three walks and scored three runs in the leadoff position. Greg Andreychuk also had an rbi single.

Game 3: Supers 1 at Langenburg 3

On Friday July 27 the deciding game was back in Langenburg. The Supers would take advantage of a throwing error to draw first blood in the top of the first, but Langenburg would respond with one of their own to tie the game. The game remained tied until the bottom of the 5th where the Legends Tyrel Thorpe sent a 2 run home run over the left center field fence to give the Legends a 3-1 lead they would never relinquish as they won the game by that same score.

Derek Palagian got the nod on the hill once again and did not disappoint. He gave up 3 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits with 4 strikeouts to take the loss. On most nights it would have been enough for the win but the offence just could not capitalize on opportunities.

The Supers only managed 3 hits for the game off of power pitching Kelly Cook, highlighted by doubles hit off the fence by Logan Parachoniak and Greg Andreychuk. Chris Morrison had the other base hit. The Supers did manage 5 walks , 3 of which from Kolodziejski. However in two innings they had glorious chances to score but left the bases loaded.

Congrats to the Legends on making it back to the SESBL final as it was another great series that could have gone either way.
