Hope fades at Rosen

One run losses continue to haunt the Minneota Mudhens and Saturday their season ended in the Section 9C Playoffs with a 5-4 loss to Rosen in 10 innings.

The heartbreaking loss came after Danny Hennen came to the hill in the fifth and held Rosen scoreless until the 10th.

Meanwhile, the Mudhens fought back from a 3-0 deficit with a run in the fifth and tied the game 3-3 in the eighth on a two-run home run by Adam Durfee.

They couldn't socre in the bottom of the ninth to win and Rosen rallied with three hits and two runs in the 10th to take a 5-3 lead.

In the bottom of the 10th  the Mudhens loaded the baes on three straight singles by Jake Leighton, Durfee and Austin Buysse. A sacrifice fly by Preston Nuy made it 5-4. But Rosen relief pitcher Mike Schake got Henry Pesch to pop up to end the game.

Leighton started on the hill for the Mudhens and was extremely wild. In four innings he walked seven and hit three batters.

At the plate, Beau Buysse was 2-4 and Leighton went 2-5 with two runs scored.

Minneota got 11 hits off starter Damian Pillatzke and Shake, but they stranded nine runners.

Minneota got a great game-saving catch in right field by Henry Pesch when he raced deep to the fench and caught the long drive by Kye Sachs with a runner on and two outs.

Minneota finished the season with a 13-12 overall record. Rosen was to play Ortonville on Sunday.

Dumont, a 7-5 winner on a home run in the 11th over Madison, advances to play the Clinton Cards Sunday.

After Sunday, the tournament continues next weekend.

Only Madison and Minneota have been eliminated.
