Outlaws come up short at Westerns.

Posted August 20, 2018

The Outlaws headed to Moose jaw this past weekend, in search of the AA Senior Western Championship title.

The tournament started with the Outlaws taking on the Prince George Grays. Prince George got to Marco early and jumped out to a 5 to 1 lead.

However the Outlaw bats exploded with an 8 spot in the 4th, and Frenchee settled in. Final score was Outlaws 14, Prince George 8.

Game 2 saw the Outlaws take on the Border All Stars from Manitoba. This was a back and forth affair, with the Outlaws taking an 8 to 7 lead into the top of 7.

Then the wheels fell off, and the boys gave up 8 to go down 15 to 8. One run was added in the bottom, but the damage was done. Final score Border all-stars 15 Outlaws 9.

This set up an important matchup between the Outlaws and the host , Moose Jaw Padres. Lindy took the mound, and Moose Jaw put together some timely hits, while the Outlaws couldn’t muster much against Moose Jaw’s young lefty.

Final result was a 7 to 3 win for the Padres, putting the Outlaws chances of advancing to the final on life support.

The 7th inning against the Border all-stars came back to haunt us, as we needed a high scoring affair between the all-stars and Moose Jaw to have a shot, and the all-stars to win.

They did win, however 8 to 0, which was all they needed to get into Sundays final against the St James A’s.

This made Sundays game between St James and the Outlaws meaningless, however we wanted to end this successful year with a win.

Jason Fechter pitched a beauty, and the bats were hot, and the boys ended the year on a positive note, taking the game 9 to 2.

Congrats to the Border All Stars for winning the final, 5 to 4 over St James. A bit tough to swallow considering they were 2 and 2 along with us and Moose Jaw, however they had the better run differential and moved on to win the whole tourney.

Special thanks on behalf of the Outlaws to our pickups that joined us for the weekend.

Kendall Daniels, Nolan Bracken, Kyle Palmer, Curtis Strueby, and Jason Fechter. We appreciate the time and effort put in to help us out boys.

This concludes a very successful year that saw the Outlaws win the Father’s day tourney , Kenosee, and Provincials. One more would have been sweet, but all in all it was one hell of a year!

Well done boys!
