Milwaukee Wins in Extras against Marquette
Posted September 28, 2018
Conferences games started Friday night as they faced off against Marquette for the first of a three-game series. Milwaukee started off hot as Jack Glosson led off the game with a double and was then brought in on an RBI single by Tyler Wendt. Milwaukee would add on to that lead with another double by Glosson that brought in 2 more runs. Glosson would finish that day 4-4 with 2 walks. Milwaukee would get behind Mack Miller starting on the mound. He would get off to a rocky start allowing baserunners to get to second and third in the first 3 innings. Mack made it very clear he loved the game as he would grin maniacally at any baserunner that reached base which made everyone uncomfortable. In the 4th inning, Miller's luck would start to run out as the first two baserunners reached and would score on an RBI single. After two more walks, that would be the end of the day for Miller. His line: 3.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 7 K, 7 BB. Miller was unavailable to be reached for a statement after the game because once he was taken out he would be on his way to Oktoberfest to celebrate his German heritage I can only assume. Next in the game would be Sam Watters who would come into the game with runners on 1st and 3rd, He would hit the first batter and one more run would score on a wild pitch but after that he was able to get out of the inning. Marquette would take the lead in the 6th after a leadoff walk, 2 stolen bases and a passed ball. other than that, Marquette wouldn’t put up another threat against Watters as he would finish his day at 3.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 6 K, 1 BB. With Milwaukee now trailing they knew they had to score and they chose to do it with 2 outs in the top of the 8th after 3 consecutive hits including an RBI "Jenders Special" as he poked one up the middle tying the game. Tyler Wendt would become the third pitcher for Milwaukee as he entered in the bottom of the inning and his stuff was on throwing all 4 of his pitches for strikes as he would go 1-2-3 in the bottom of the inning with 2 strikeouts. Milwaukee would load up the bases in the top of the 9th but would not be able to push a run across. Wendt would hold Marquette off in the bottom of the 9th which would lead to FREE BASEBALL! As cool as free baseball sounds, Milwaukee didn’t want to waste any time scoring in the 10th as they loaded the bases and Wilson Belknapp came up clutch with a 2 RBI single. They would add 1 more on a sac fly by Tyler O'Brien. Wendt would finish off the game in the Bottom of the 10th securing the win and recording his first win as a pitcher.
Final Score 7-4 Milwaukee (10 inn.)
The series will continue Saturday with a double header starting at noon. Ryan King will be on the mound for the first game, followed by Jacob Goldsmith in game 2.
