LATE- Milwaukee Splits Doubleheader
Posted October 1, 2018
Saturday, Milwaukee looked to get a sweep against Marquette and start off the conference season a very comfortable 3-0 record. They would get behind Ryan King in the first game as he got his first career start in club ball for the 3rd year in a row. Sadly, balls were more frequent than strikes, which lead to baserunners, which lead to runs. King would only last 1 inning after loading the bases and did not record an out in the 2nd. He was hung with 8 ER with 5 walks and 2 hits surrendered. He gave way to Freshman Andy Velazquez who would stop the bleeding and would finish off the game. Milwaukee's offense couldn’t really muster much as they were only able to push across 3 runs.
In conclusion: Walks bad.
Game 1 Final Score 12-3 Marquette
As if game 1 never happened which some would have hoped, Milwaukee came out in game 2 guns blazing as they tried to capture the series victory. They would get behind Jacob "Jake" Goldsmith as he took the ball. In short, they had zero chance. To elaborate, Goldsmith goes all 7 innings and proceeds to record 18 of the 21 outs as strikeouts while scattering 3 hits. The only hint of trouble he found himself in was when he allowed a leadoff baserunner in the 6th to get to third. Once on third, Goldie went on to strike out the side. On offense, Milwaukee was able to push 2 runs across in the first with a 2 RBI Double by Wilson "Willie" Belknapp. They would push 2 more runs across in the 2nd and 3 more runs scattered for 7 total runs as they would go on to a shutout victory.
Game 2 Final Score: 7-0 Milwaukee
Milwaukee Fans will now wait 2 weeks until they get to see their boys in digital camo on the field again as they travel across the border in a match-up against Northwestern. Start times still TBD.
