Recap of Sundays Games at Northwestern
Posted October 21, 2018
After a gut-wrenching loss on Saturday, Milwaukee drove back down to Northwestern to finish off the Fall season. Luckily today, there was no cross-country race and the weather was better.
Milwaukee started the first game off strong again as they put two runs on the board after Tyler "BOT" O'Brien and Kyle Olsen both walked to start the game. Alex Elliott and Hunter Garsky were able to get them in. They were able to get 3 more runs in the 5th after O'Brien and Olsen were able to get on base again, this time on an error and a team strikeout, which we all know is when you strike out on a pitch that hits the dirt and reach base. Elliott would come through with an RBI hit to score O'Brien and Wendt would drive in Olsen and Elliott. Defensively, Milwaukee got behind their 6'5" starter Mackenzie Miller. Like Matt Willems was the game before, Miller had the strikeout working early and often as he quickly accumulated 8 strikeouts through 3 innings. Northwestern was able to get a run across in the second after an error. That would be all that Northwestern could muster as Miller had his best stuff. He would finish the game with 14 strikeouts and only allowed 3 hits while walking 2.
Final Score:
Milwaukee 5
Northwestern 1
Game 2 Milwaukee got behind Jacob Goldsmith in his final game for the club team as graduates in winter which is a major bummer. He got early run support as Milwaukee was able to score in the 1st inning again thanks to an RBI groundout by Kyle Olsen and a big 2 RBI hit from Ben Jenders. Milwaukee was on the board again in the 2nd after a RBI ground rule double by Alex Elliott. If the fence in the outfield was connected to the ground Olsen would have been able to score from first and Elliott would have been able to get thrown out at 3rd because he thinks he is fast when clearly, he isn’t. The big inning for Milwaukee came in the 5th when after the first two batters of the inning were retired, Tyler O'Brien hit one off the top of the wall (weight room). That was then followed by 2 walks a hit by Tyler Wendt that nearly took off the pitchers head it set up the table perfectly for Wilson Belknapp as he cleared the bases with a 3 RBI triple. He would then get driven in by Ben Jenders as he would collect his 4th RBI of the game. As Milwaukee collected its 11th run that would be far more than enough for Goldsmith as he would go the full 5 innings in the run rule game. His line would finish at 5 IP, 1 R, 8 K, 2 H, 1 BB, 2 HBP.
Final Score (5 Inning Run rule):
Milwaukee 11
Northwestern 1
