Rizzi Garners BIG EAST Player of the Week, Cody Named to Honor Roll

Marissa Rizzi becomes the fifth player in program history to secure the accolade twice in a single season

After another smashing performance at this past weekend's St. John's Invitational, junior Marissa Rizzi was named BIG EAST Player of the Week for the second time this season, the conference announced on Monday. In addition, freshman Peyton Cody earned a spot on the league's weekly honor roll.

The Red Storm's duo ranked first and second, respectively, among BIG EAST competitors in batting average (.700 & .615) and slugging percentage (1.600 & 1.000) this weekend. The pair also combined for back-to-back home runs against Holy Cross on Saturday.

Rizzi joins Kaitlin Fitzgerald, Jackie Reed, Erin Burner and teammate Gretchen Bowie as the only Johnnies to secure the player of the week accolade twice in a single campaign.

The Manorville, N.Y., native's hot bat continued to crush softballs this weekend as she registered a home run in three-straight games, extending her conference-leading count to eight. She also had a perfect performance at the dish in two of the team's four matchups, including a 1-for-1, three-walk showing against defending CAA Champion Hofstra on Friday.

Through 23 starts this season, Rizzi also paces the BIG EAST in batting average (.448), slugging percentage (.896), on-base percentage (.526) and total bases (60).
