Giordano Earns CAA Rookie of the Week Honors

After a stellar week at the plate and helping the Hofstra Softball team to a 4-1 record at the Blue and White Classic, freshman third baseman Meghan Giordano was named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week as announced by the Association Tuesday. It is the first time this season that Giordano has earned the honor.

Giordano led the Pride with a .563 batting average this week (9-for-16), while also pacing the team with nine hits, one double, three home runs and 10 RBI for a 1.188 slugging percentage. In addition, Giordano added three walks to help compile a .600 on base percentage for the week. She also recorded two or more hits in four of Hofstra's five games.

One of Giordano's best games this week was in a 13-1 win over the Iona Gaels, when she finished 3-for-4 at the plate with five RBI and two home runs, including her second three-run blast of the season. She later tied for a team-high three RBI when she hit another three-run homer against Hampton to help guide Hofstra to an 11-2 victory over the Lady Pirates.

This season, Giordano leads the team with a .420 batting average with 21 hits, five doubles, five home runs, and 22 RBI for a slugging percentage of .820. She is currently tied for fifth in the CAA in total hits, tied for sixth in doubles (5), tied for fifth in home runs (5), tied for second in RBI (22), fourth in total bases (41), fourth in slugging percentage (.820), tied for eighth in walks (11), and is tied for sixth in on base percentage (.508).
